Administration

It is my pleasure to serve as the Freshman Academy Administrator for Walker Valley High School! It brings me great joy to assist freshmen as they transition to high school life. Having been in public education for 29 years, 18 of those in administration, I have accumulated a lot of experience helping students through difficult circumstances!

I am a proud husband to Kelley Burroughs, Band Teacher at Ocoee Middle School, and father of three adult children, all of whom are in post-secondary schools presently. My most cherished life memories are accumulated through time spent with family. I love running and mountain biking, Tennessee Vols football, and playing golf.

I am very grateful to be at Walker Valley and have treasured my time here!  I am super excited to work with the students and staff of the Medicine and Business Academy, as well as the faculty and staff as a whole.  My undergraduate degree is in Economics, and I have years of practical experience working in the Financial Services industry.  Our teachers and students in the MBA go above and beyond to learn about the business and medical arenas and always excel through classroom and practical experiences.  It is a pleasure to watch them grow and to serve them.  

I am the proud father of two children, my daughter, who graduated from Lipscomb University in Animation and Film, and my son, who is a senior this year and is hoping to attend UT in the Fall.  My wife, Renee, is also a school Administrator in the Chattanooga area.  I love to be outside and participate in a number of activities that involve being active. 

It is an HONOR to serve at my Alma Mater as the Humanities Academy Dean of Students. As a student at Charleston Elementary, Jr. High, and High School, I had the privilege of being part of the first graduating class of WVHS in 2002.   I have been an educator for 18 years, 8 of those in administration.  As a teacher, I taught Spanish and English as a Second Language. 

In 2006, I met my wife, Beth Leach, serving with the International Mission Board in Peru.  We have 3 wonderful children Ruby, Silas, and Bonnie.  I enjoy hunting, fishing, and camping!   I am BLESSED to work with the AMAZING teachers, students, and families of the Humanities Academy!

I am ecstatic to be back at my Alma Mater, serving as an Assistant Principal. As a student here, I loved designing blueprints, learning about manufacturing, getting LOUD in the marching band, and, of course, meeting my future wife! After graduating, I never would have imagined that my rookie years in architecture and construction would have been altered so greatly by the housing market crash. Since then, my high school sweetheart and I got married, had four awesome kids, and I felt called to go into education. Before coming back to my alma mater, I had the opportunity to share my passion for engineering and architecture in the classroom for over ten years. Now, I'm blessed to be a part of this amazing faculty and help students take ownership of their path toward their future!

I am currently in my 28th year in education, and it has been such a joy to serve the students and families with whom I have come into contact.  My first four years were in Polk County at Copper Basin High School.  The next four years, I spent at Ocoee Middle School teaching 8th-grade English.  This is my 20th year at Walker Valley High School, and I truly enjoy being a part of this community.  I have spent the last twelve years in administration.  My current role is Principal of Student Services.

My husband, Ken, and I were high school sweethearts and have been married for 26 years.  Our son, Wyatt, is a senior at Lee University, and our daughter, Lauren, is a senior at Walker Valley.  My hobbies include spending time with my family, traveling, meeting new people, and watching/listening to true crime shows.
