Campus Guests
Building Access
The building opens at 7:30 am. The three doors available for entry are the Auditorium Lobby, the Gym Lobby (both found in the back of the school), and the Main Entrance to the school. All other doors will be open at 8:05 am. After 8:15 am all doors other than the Main Entrance to the building are locked for safety purposes. Anyone entering the building for any reason after 8:15 is to use the Main Entrance.
Students will be housed in the cafeteria and the gymnasium between the times of 7:30 am and 8:05 am. At 8:05 am students will be released to prepare for the beginning of the school day. The restroom that is available before 8:05 am is the one located in the gym lobby. A student in any other part of the building in the morning, without permission, is considered “Out of assigned area” and will be addressed as such.
As a safety consideration for bus passengers, only buses are allowed on the bus ramp driveway directly behind the school. This is to be in force from 7:15 am until 4:00 pm daily.
Car drivers are not to loiter in their cars or the parking lots. Once a student arrives on campus they are to enter the building without delay.
Campus Parking For Students
In an effort to increase the safety of our students and staff, each student who has been issued a Tennessee driver’s license and has proof of insurance may purchase a parking space that they will use throughout the school year. Parking can be purchased for $50. Parking lots will be checked periodically to make sure each car has a tag and is parked in the proper space. A $50 fine will be issued for a student’s car that is parked without a tag. If the student does not already have a tag, the $50 fine will cover the cost of a tag and a designated spot.
The parking permit may be purchased during orientation, or in the main office for the appropriate amount for the desired parking space. The permit application may be obtained from the main office and will be kept one file. Parking permits must be displayed on the rearview mirror. Students must park in their purchased space and parking spaces marked with a “WV” are specifically reserved for staff.
Disciplinary action may be taken by the school when a student is incorrectly parked or not displaying a current permit. The SRO will issue tickets for illegal handicapped parking. The speed limit on campus is 10 mph and reckless or dangerous operation of a vehicle on campus may result in the loss of campus driving privileges. Driving to school is a privilege and should not be abused.
If someone is parked in your purchased space, come to the main office to inform an administrator.
Student Safety Id's
All Walker Valley administration, faculty, staff, and students are expected to wear safety identification badges daily. If lost or destroyed, a student must purchase their new identification for school use. Each badge and lanyard will cost $5. Students will be required to possess an identification badge or temporary ID in order to purchase breakfast and/or lunch each day. Without an ID, students can be turned away from acquiring a meal until properly identified.
- At the beginning of each school year, each student will be given, free of charge, a student safety identification badge and lanyard. Students may provide their own lanyard that is free of profane or inappropriate words, topics, graphics, pictures, etc. It must be school appropriate.
- The student safety identification badge and lanyard must be worn upon entering the school building and remain on while at school.
- The student safety identification badge and lanyard must be worn around the neck, in front of the body, and on the outermost layer of clothing. The student safety identification badge and lanyard must be visible at all times.
- A student may not use, wear, or possess another student’s safety identification badge.
- The student safety identification badge must be presented to administrators, faculty, staff, or person of authority immediately upon request.
- The student safety identification badge and lanyard must be worn at all times except when deemed a safety risk by their teacher of record during class.
- The student safety identification badge and lanyard are not to be defaced in any way. A defaced student safety identification badge includes: unauthorized stickers, and/or writing or drawing on the front or back of the card, or altering the card including name, picture, barcode, etc. Nothing should be written or attached to the front of the student safety identification badge. The only stickers allowed are those issued by the school.
- Lost, stolen, altered, damaged and /or defaced student safety identification badge must be replaced immediately. The cost of replacement of the card, $5, shall be the responsibility of the wearer, unless deemed otherwise by an administrator.
- Students without their student safety identification badge and lanyard while at school will be issued a temporary ID sticker from the main office/hall station which must be worn all day.
- 7:30-8:05 am- Students may get a temporary ID sticker from the main office.
- 8:05-8:15 am- Students may get a temporary ID sticker from the main office or the hallway stations.
- After 8:15 am- Students should report to class, and their teacher will send for a temporary ID sticker from the main office.

**A student who has accumulated ten (10) or more Student Safety ID infractions will be ineligible to attend dances, including prom. This policy also extends to signing off that students are in “good standing” in order to attend dances/proms at other schools.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, school administration will be in constant contact with the Civil Defense Network and Bradley County Emergency Management Agency so that early warning can be received concerning possible inclement weather. Students will be sent home only if there is sufficient time to get them there before severe weather strikes. Parents are urged not to come to school for children if the severe weather is already in the immediate area, since students would be safer at school than traveling under these conditions.
After conferring with EMA, Bradley County Sheriff’s department, and other local agencies, the Director of Schools will make the final decision as to whether or not to send students home. If the decision is made to dismiss schools, the bus schedule will operate as follows: elementary schools, middle schools, and then high schools. This route will prevent the buses from being on the road for longer periods of time with the possibility of conditions becoming worse.
In some instances because of road conditions, the buses may not be able to make the same route. If students live in an area where hills exist, arrangements may need to be made to meet the student at the closest cross street prior to the hill or at the entrance to the subdivision. If the student is not met, or if the driver cannot get the child within a reasonable distance to his/her home, the student will be returned to the school as a last resort. Please make plans with your student for early dismissal due to inclement weather.
Emergency Drills
Each teacher is provided with procedures and routes to take for all emergencies. Exit routes are posted in every room and discussions of procedures are reviewed by teachers to prepare students for such needs. In a real emergency, every child will be supervised and safeguarded until the emergency is passed.
"Stop-It" App
An application for student and community use has been established for individuals to anonymously report unsafe conditions or situations which may arise in the school community. The app can be downloaded at the App Store for both Android and IOS devices. The access code “Walker Valley” will designate that all reports are sent to the appropriate persons. As soon as a report is made, the appropriate school personnel will receive an instant notification, review the incident and take appropriate actions. By working together, we can prevent incidents from occurring and ensure the safety and security of our students.
